Dear Friends
I am headed to Portland, OR and Camas, WA with my wife Emily in a couple of weeks. I wanted to share out more specifics about that trip, plus a few other updates while I have you on the line.
Agenda for Portland/Camas Visit
Saturday, March 7, 2026 - Camas Friends Church (10:00 AM)
Title: Endless Revolution - The Lamb's War and Framing Quaker Relationships to Empire Today
Description: In this workshop, we will explore the early political and theological context of both the early Church and Early Friends, explore the Book of Revelation as a basis for understanding their relationship to empire and "the Lamb's War." We will look at what, if anything, the Lamb's War has to do with Friends Today, and consider some practices of resistance that may be meaningful as we consider our own relationship to the American Empire. There will be presentation and small group discussion in this workshop.
Sunday, March 8, Camas Friends Church (10:30 AM)
Bringing a prepared message on Exodus 17:1-7 during meeting for worship.
Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 PM @ Reedwood Friends Church
Title: "The practice of silence as resistance in an attention economy."
Description: In today's world, the practice of silence is not just a style of worship, but a way of resisting the attention economy. We will look at silence, and "practices of boredom," as practices of resistance and how they help us in a world inundated by technology meant to steal our focus. Finally, we will consider how we might weave these practices into daily life, outside Sunday gatherings, in order to strengthen our resolve and imaginations for what is possible.
I hope that if you're in the area you can join us for one of these times.
